You are allowed to charge a credit card fee to cover the costs incurred. We did this at our discount factory showrooms where profits were deliberately reduced to undercut and to generate turnover. When we explained to customers the % we were charged they were surprised and didn't realise the hidden cost to retailers. They mainly thought card payments were free for them and the retailer. We didn't have anyone complain when it was explained and they happily paid the extra or paid by cash or cheque instead.
In the main showrooms where more profits were made we didn't put the charge on but we did refuse, like a great number of retailers, to accept American Express because their charges are very high. |
