Default dash-cam. Usefull tool? or spy in my car!!

As above, I have read in my dash cam manual, that it records route, ave speed, and max speed..... But, is this "evidence! presentable in a Court of law????

I am not sure if it would stand up in court, but it must be of help in the now quite common 'blame' denial culture of the guilty. Mine (about £50 from Maplins), is not as sophisticated as yours, it only records a wide angle forward view, plus sound. This should produce visual evidence of liability and it will record any in car chat before the incident, and any conversation that might take place, such as "sorry, it was my fault", which is then denied later.

Roverite.

PS. I think the 'Spy in the Car' aspect, will eventually apply to all new road vehicles in the not too distant future. If you have nothing to hide, you will have nothing to fear, hopefully!

Hmmm, looks like I may be using the off switch a bit innit...

I am rather prone to letting my car speed creep up a lil on motorways...

Well, mine records in three minute chunks. So I would submit the three minutes in question and then *oops* all the other clips got overwritten. Dunno how that happened!

it will record to an SD card.

Easy enough to pop out and disreatly dispose of it you need to

Unless its calibrated the speeds recorded wont stand up in court anyway.

Bear in mind that if the worst happens, you may not be in a fit state to remove a card or overwrite any files. And in a serious accident the police will take stuff like your camera for evidence.

The only answer is... don't do anything illegal when the camera is on.

Mine doesn't record speed, but I have noticed that I drive more 'thoughtfully' now!

I think before long in car cctv will be a standard fitment in cars. It can only be a good thing if i'm honest, the excuse insurance companies use for hiking premiums is 'cash for crash' and personal injury claims.
Im surprised built in satnavs are not storing all the dates and times where speeding has taken place, our fleet tracker system flags up speeding.

There's plenty of technology there to do it, its just a matter of time
