Rover 75 airbag light........need help!
Dear members,
Since April of this year I am the proud owner of a Rover 75 2.5V6 Sterling of 2000. And after having spend 'some' money and giving the car the very much needed mechanical TLC I even love it more! There's just one thing that my garage is not able to to resolve and that's the airbag light ... so would really appreciate some help in this as my garage is officially stuck now and doens't now how to proceed. Some history on this matter: When I bought the car, the airbag light was on. But I didnt worry since this is a common fault for a Rover 75. Garage analysed it with T4 and saw the following errocodes: *malfunction in the left side airbag sensor setting * Failure in the left side airbag sensor communication (Sorry, am translating from Dutch) Erasing the errorcodes didn't work; they would re-appear instantly. Next step: they took out the seats end removed the plugs for both the belt tensioners and side airbags, extended and soldered them. Erased the errorcodes but still the same result. Bought a used side airbag and connected it; same result. Checked wiring to side airbag: that is ok. Checked resistance of side airbag, that is also ok. Then tried to change settings in airbag ecu. That isn't possible without reprogramming the engine-ecu. And that is not possible because the airbag ecu is not recognized properly by the T4. So.. am stuck now and would really really appreciate some help in getting this fault out of the way! Thnx in advance, Gerard |

You may find that you need a new airbag ECU (sometimes called a DCU). This solved the problem for me last year and they are sold at a reasonable price by Best of British - see http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ROVER-75-M...item3cd5a104fb. It would need to be installed in your car using a T4 I believe. Hope this helps. Other more technically-minded members may have different suggestions. Enjoy your car. You mention "side airbag sensor setting", have you checked the side impact unit that is mounted on the inside of the cill?

Agreed This "side impact sensor " is a common cause of the light staying on , often but not always caused by damp floors / leaks destroying the sensor. It is bolted to a cross member under the passenger seat ( LHS ) As far as I know there isn't one under the driver's seat , but someone will correct me if I am wrong

Thank you all for taking the effort and time to reply.
Good to see that there are still people out there that take the time to help eachother out and keep these great cars on the road Ok, trying to summarize your advice: looks like the side impact sensor under the driver seat should be replaced first, and if that doens't help then the airbag ecu. The airbag ecu would then also require a T4 job to be programmed. Wondered around the internet a bit looking for these parts... Two more questions before ordering:
As soon as I have the parts and have the work done, I'll update you all on the results. Cheers, Gerard |

Sorry Folks, but I will answer in Dutch.

For the impact sensor Rimmers are using part number YWJ101340 although their picture still shows YDB100310 ( nla )
Similar story with ECU picture shows old part number of YWC107090 but they are using YWJ101590

Do please double-check that the Land Rover part number for the airbag ECU/DCU are identical and compare the costs of each - at the time for me, the Best of British price was the cheapest I could find . All the best, Nicholas/Zircon |

Solved!
Dear all,
Today my garage replaced the Side-Impact sensor by a used one and guess what: the airbag light is off and stays off! Looking at the replaced one, it is obvious why it failed: it had been submerged in water and was totaly corroded :-( So thank you all for helping me out in resolving this issue. Taking my car to Norway for a holiday of 3 weeks now. Fingers crossed Last edited by Gerard_Berends; 9th July 2015 at 19:06.. |
