Anyone who can repair HGF on MG TF in North Bristol ?
Hi, does anyone know of a reasonably priced mechanic near N Bristol (or who can collect car from there) with possible HGF?? Been quoted 15 hours in normal garage around £600 labour. Any help appreciated! Car had all the timing belts/water pump etc done in 2014 about 8000 miles ago - so they won't need doing again just yet.

Not exactly Bristol but White Post Garage in Gloucester do a collection service. Been using them for years and they are knowledgeable on MGR cars.
Number is 01452 417293. Ask for Rodger. He can say no but he may have an idea for you. 23k since my head was done, £595 inc belts and water pump etc.

But I think you will find that the water pump plus belt needs to be changed at the same time.

You've mentioned timing belts so is it a 1.8 VVC or a standard 1.8 (non VVC)?
A VVC has two belts. It will make a difference on price no matter who does it. I would also reserve judgement on the condition of the belts etc until it's stripped down. In this situation, whenever belts etc have been previously changed & requested to be re-used, I always get the customer to sign a disclaimer. |

Hi guys, thanks for your responses (Sorry can't access my messages - I need to renew my subs by the looks - oops!). The engine is a 1.6 non vvc, would this be cheaper?
Much appreciated all.

You may want to try Russell of MG Rover Solutions - see http://www.mgroversolutions.com/ Although based in Kent, he travels the length and breadth of the country, specialising in these repairs to F's and TF's at a reasonable cost and prides himself on only doing what is absolutely needed - he also does V6 belts. Hope this helps All the best, Nicholas/Zircon |

The mobile guys are brilliant at what they do
http://www.roughluckracing.com Very very good, as good as Russell! http://www.mgroversolutions.com/ If your need is immediate, try phoning these outfits on there mobiles. Busy time of year with loads of TF's and MGF's coming out of hibernation for the summer. Plus these guys being one man bands are invariably out on the road. Importantly it won't take any of these guys 15 hours to do it. In fact that is why they make so much sense, about 3 - 4 hours for standard TF repair. And yes water pump and belts regardless. In fact they will not do it without these normally. Traditional garage makes no sense these days. I have in the past had to wait 3 weeks to get a specialist man to me from the above, but it is worth the wait! Last edited by Weso; 1st April 2017 at 06:34.. Reason: spelling |
