I had no prolems at all when I had my Philips DAB head unit fitted. Just a simple sticky screen aerial (that ran up the A pillar with my power lead for the dash cam) and it never lost reception anywhere.

I now have a DD with FM and I miss my 6Music on DAB.

DAB is rubbish..I work in radio and most of us see it as a bit of a white elephant. The sound quality is very poor compared to FM so its misleading that the public expect CD quality sound when they buy into it. Often the stations are mono.

Its also massively expensive to transmit on and currently take up where I am is around a third. FM is still king by a long way.

My.own view is that as 4G tech progresses internet streaming will overtake both FM and DAB but not for a few years yet.

What it does give is more variety of stations but the brutal truth is that many of those stations are basically a playlist run on a PC in a cupboard somewhere with little to no human input.

I have DAB at home on my hi fi and its crass quality. Nowhere near as good as FM. Complete retrograde step in quality. I do sometimes teher my phone to my Navall 3 and stream Internet Radio which is suprisingly good and only occasionally drops the signal (due to mobile signal dropping).

... but DAB is clearer than LW for Test Match Special.

All the best, Nicholas/Zircon

That is perfectly true. LW is abysmal.

LW is murder. But actually MW can sound not bad on a radio actually properly set up for it.

I had a mint 79 Cortina a few years ago with a period radio and MW/LW only, and MW sounded really warm and full through it.

Radios now are optimized for FM which is great but AM stations sound brutal.

Default DAB Radio

I have got a Pioneer head unit in my ZT-T with a roof mounted areal at the rear, the reception is fantastic, and have never suffered drop out of signal,
I got the aerial from DAB on wheels, you need to spend around £40 to £80, but it’s worth it.
Stick on window aerials tend to give disappointing results, which is what I am sure is causing some of the negative reviews of DAB in car reception.

My experience with DAB it all depends where you are in the UK. SWMBO has a DAB radio in the house, it seems fine most of the time but when her sister bought one she found the reception was at best marginaL even though she only lives a few miles away. She tested her radio at our house and it is fine.

There was talk a couple of years ago they were going to switch FM off, thankfully that all seems to have gone silent.

As opposed to FM itself, which hasn't!!
