Default DIY Footwell clip tool

Hi all.

I always have trouble getting the clips from the foot wells off:

Don't know if it's just my lack of skill of if others struggle as well .

I guess there's some official tool to do the job but I've never heard of, or seen, one.

So, I've made a DIY tool to spin them off.

Items needed:

3 x 20mm masonry nails
Old IKEA/Flat Pack Allen key - I seem to have loads
Cable tie
Araldite

1. Grind a flat on each of the nails.

2. Extend/enlarge three of the flats on the Allen key so that the nails and the key form a triangle.

3. Cable tie the nails to the Allen key using the clip as a guide. Use a bit of cloth in the clip to give a stop for the nails

Apologies for the poor photos - Phone + small object isn't great but I'm sure you'll get the idea.

And Araldite in place:

Not the prettiest tool I've ever made but it's functional.

Hope that's useful.

Andy.

I have had the same problem. I think I brazed a nut onto a washer and then soldered 2 "pins" into the other side of the washer having drilled 2 small holes for the "pins". I can use a 10mm socket to undo the plastic things.

Necessity is the mother on invention.

Years ago working in a telephone exchange "laziness" become the mother.
To save engineers walking backward and forwards along a long rack, they used small plastic tube. They connected a wire to one end of each tube, pushed the tube through the rack, walked to the other side of the rack, grabbed to tubes and dragged the wires to the required location. The tubes could have been on different levels. As an off shoot, this also made them more efficient

Apart from a snapped front spring she's fine. Fortunately happened while parked up at home. Thanks for asking.

Hopefully we'll be able to catch up soon.

Cheers.

Andy.

PS Trust that the family are all well.

I tend to use a flat blade screwdriver in the provided slot to unscrew these, it makes life much more simple than reinventing the wheel
