Recent studies seem to generally agree that a plane isn’t necessarily the most polluting means of transportation. That’s why it’s also being said a car pollutes just as much, and often even more than a plane over equivalent distances. For example, a study by the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute states the energy intensity of car transportation is on average 57% higher than air transports. In other words, a car emits more CO2 than the average planes because they consume more energy to transport the same number of passengers.

It will not be long before the "powers that be" will start hitting us motorists hard again, more so those with big engines. I really get annoyed about that, as it is already well known that aircraft emit more "greenhouse gas" than cars, and they are only starting to notice them now.

I am lucky enough to have driven a number of nice cars in my life, but there are a number out there that I would like to drive before I shuffle off this mortal coil, and i am bleedin well going to make sure that i do

Due to one reason or another i haven't driven the 75 properly in a few months. However relishing the thought that in a few days i will be getting into it to drive 180 miles from my location to the French Pyrenees for a few days. Yes a lot will be highway cruising of which this car eats up in comfort and at the other end a few mountain passes which it also handles sublimely and get the chance to drop it into sport mode.
Its a 20 year old car that am only the second owner of so has been maintained very well but have no qualms about putting the mileage on as it was made to be driven and enjoyed.

Just go for it i say as what's the point of polishing something you don't get to use. Yes it might break down but so can any car including new ones. That's the curse of owning a car but you get in with faith its going to do it's job.

Just my opinion though, Drive and enjoy and don't worry about the mileage.

Lets think of it this way.
I wont make love to my wife too much because I want the next owner to be impressed with how good the ride is........

My CDTI is without doubt the most pleasureable driving experience of any car I have owned,( and that includes a Silver Shadow 1). I fully concur with drive and enjoy, with an M47 powering me along, mileage is right at the bottom of my worries.

I wonder how the diesel version would compare to the V6 Heather?

These cars must have been fantastic when new, my own car is a little careworn now, I'm hoping that the slow path to improvement I'm undertaking will pay off in time......

You and me both Terry. I bought my car at the age of 70 about 13 years ago.

The best and most reliable car I've ever owned.

It just doesn't go wrong.--
