Default Rover 75 Diesel Clutch issues ** Solved**

about 6 months ago i got new clutch kit installed (from rimmerbros part number ZUA001321) which cost me £450 (Paid £600 with 60k on clock) only to find out 6 months down the line i've got clutch issues again... was advised by many people to try replace master first as i already changed for new slave (3,000 on new slave) which was £50 which i did and it was drivable for about 300/400 miles now i can't get pressure in the clutch. it's booked into the clutch centre this morning for a pro bleed then i will know 100% what is the issue

Master cylinder was order from Discount MG Rover spares

if it works out to be the slave again and i've got to spend another £400 getting it fixed with new LUK slave (£100 and £300 labour) which i can't afford and will likely be out of a job as can't make it to work this week, so might be the death of another car as only other option is to scrap or sell parts and strip the car to make some money back that i've lost trying to keep the car on the road

If you paid a firm to do the work and they supplied the parts, should they not fix the problem under warranty?

Remove the master cylinder cap and the rubber underneath. Is there fluid in the master cylinder? If there is, how much?

I have known a master cylinder to fail in less then a year.

Are there signs of a fluid leak under the car?

Did the master cylinder get replaced when the clutch and slave cylinder were fitted? If so then it should be covered under warranty. £300 labour to change it seems very excessive,I know it’s a p i t a job, but how much are they charging per hour?

Need a bit more info to make any sort of diagnosis - have you lost fluid out of the master cylinder reservoir? Is there any evidence of fluid leaking out of the bellhousing, pipes, pipe joints or quick connection?

To test the master cylinder you can release the quick connection and then try pressing the pedal - it should be rock hard.

Sadly it isn't unknown for new slave cyinders to fail prematurely.

From how I read it, the OP supplied a clutch kit to be fitted by the garage, if so that opens a whole new can of worms.

The parts will be covered by a one year warranty by XPart, and as such labour can be reimbursed at a flat rate of £30 per hour at the RTS book time, once the parts have been returned for a warranty claim.

However XPart is currently closed and their staff furloughed, so a claim may take some time.

The only thing I could suggest is to have the car repaired, and wait until such time as XPart reopen to initiate a claim for labour/parts.

I wouldn't expect the garage to be forthcoming if they didn't supply the parts in the first instance.

Update from Clutch centre is saying the master cylinder is leaking which is a new part from Discount MG Rover parts

At least yours failed within the warrantee. These failures are very common and the clutch hydraulics have a history of early failure. Many fail after low usage and 3000 miles is not uncommon. My master fitted with a new clutch and slave by Trikey, who knows what he's doing, failed at 13 months and 3000 miles so no warrantee. That was replaced but then the slave went. I was advised by Big Russ to not bother again fixing it after another 3000 miles the symptoms came back but get rid as it will fail again. He has had many of his customers go through this, one replacing his clutch three times in five years, and says do not buy a manual.

It seems the problem is not one manufacturer but across them all, mine was LUK but I was told buy the specialist who replaced the master that he has seen the failure in all manufacturers including the metal ones and had them fail out of the box on installation.

Down to poor QA on replacement parts and causing the scrapping of many basically good cars that become to costly to keep fixing.
