Spot on and that should have been a consideration this year of all years. The consequences to mental health have been completely overlooked. It shows a total lack empathy and judgement by the government.

I love the winter evenings, sitting there looking at the fire in the fireplace,a nice glass of something warming, watching the footie on the TV with the fire flicking and lighting up the room, its so cosy you don't have the time to look at the clock

All the happiness that used to be

Soon my eyes will close
Soon I'll find repose
And in dreams, you're always near to me

I'll see you in my dreams
And then I'll hold you in my dreams

I agree to some extent, but having said that, we will still have the same amount of darkness each day, whether or not the clocks go back.

So why not adjust our daily schedule? Most of us who are working from home could easily start an hour earlier, as could the retired. For instance, our local Tesco was almost deserted when I went at about 7 am today.....

And yes, although the mental health aspect might have been overlooked, changing to GMT will help in many circumstances. My grandchildren, for instance, have all finished school by 3pm at the moment, so can quite easily get home before it’s dark even in the depths of a GMT time zone winter (OK, we live south of the Midlands).

But with BST, they would be starting to walk to school in the dark much sooner than in GMT, and it would go on for longer, so GMT gives them at least more useful daylight, than BST.

I suppose my point is that what’s good for the goose ISN’T always good for the gander.

But see my sig.

Willy, no,that's not another one, I would never even dream of using derogatory abusive terms of any description about anybody! In the interests of clarity, it was intended as describing the sound of air expressed through pursed lips to signify scepticism. An example of non sequitur if ever there was one! If only we could rely on old fashioned manners as a default!

Default I've been wrong.

For all of my life I've divided the years into six months of light and darkness but, I'm wrong and I'll tell you why. It's dark outside now at around 7pm and that will lengthen but there's mostly lightness in the days until this point, it's the 24th of October and we're already less than eight weeks to the shortest day. In the first week of January we can see the lightness coming back in to the days, I reckon I can cope with eight weeks of darker days if I start my darkness days tonight, it's not the worst thing really. It's been a bad year for all of us in many ways but, we're still here and that is always the Ace card we have to play. I say just enjoy every breath be it warm or cold air...

I adjusted my manual setting clocks late last night and just realized that my " automatically updating mobile phone" is one and a half hours fast and the date is twenty days out.
