Who would have thought it!
I am definitely an anorak for odd bits of information.
This caught my attention in the journal “Global Environmental Change” Vol 65, November 2020 - article 102184” “Use of aviation by climate change researchers: Structural influences, personal attitudes, and information provision.” Authors- Lorraine Whitmarsh and Corinne Le Quere. Apparently Climate change researchers, especially professors, clock up more air miles than any other research speciality! And whilst they do feel guilty about travelling to all the Climate Change bun fights around the globe - they do feel that such travel is necessary for them (but not for the rest of us it seems) Another classic example of “don’t do as I do - do as I say!” The paper has clearly touched a nerve with a “Bob Ward from the Grantham Research Institute warning that this study “could have serious consequences” He told The Daily Telegraph:- “attempts to force or shame climate researchers into flying less could be far more damaging if it reduces the quality and quantity of evidence and advice they provide to policy makers.” Their sun tans will probably take a hit as well. A few years back delegates from all over the globe attended a conference in Nigeria. One of their edicts was to suggest that all those people burning wood in their huts in remote regions of Africa were ruining the world. Plonkers.

I was reading a piece t'other day about the EU/Paris accord countries wanting to implement a 'Border carbon tax' as the imported emissions of those products from countries not moving to carbon neutrality by 2050 or are not in the Paris accord are 70% higher than domestic emissions, which puts companies who are decarbonising in the EU at a disadvantage.......cough ....USA!

Sprat to catch a Mackerel springs to mind
If you are taking a pop at climate researchers, although ironic, it may well be a necessary evil, to in fact reduce climate change. macafee2 |

I am (almost)speechless-with rage!!! No one needs to go to a conference. It can all be done over the net. Was doing it- "conferencing", over the phone in the 1980's Or did I imagine it??? Chris.S.
