Default A Christmas present for a 13yo girl...?

Well an Airfix kit of course......

Spent 45m in Chester's model city (nice people) on Sunday with my daughter looking at all the kits. A trip down memory lane for me as I remember clutching my well earned pocket money and going into Perth on a Saturday morning and choosing a model then later when we moved to Edinburgh to Wonderland Models on Lothian Road.
Good to see Airfix on the up as I recall they went through a shaky patch some time ago. Anyway we went for the 1:72 Bae Lightning starter kit that's a good size and fairly straightforward so that's the winter evenings sorted In case you're wondering of the bizarre choice - she's just joined the Air Cadets and loving every minute of it.

Back to Airfix - they used to have a factory near Hull docks and had a Hunter gate guardian (ex Raf Leuchers I think) - still there? Loved the box art and although they toned down the action some years ago most of the box art is back to its former glory. I was impressed with the Hawker Typhoon low level tank attack picture

The Hunter gate guardian was as far as I know a full scale replica, which still exists after being secured for preservation following Humbrol/Airfix's move down to Hornby at Margate, and is now at Fort Paull a few miles up the road:

Used to do the exact same thing, all those hours of glueing and painting Most of my old Action Men and their equipment got the same treatment too
