Default Madness In The Current Climate!

Last week the Home Office announced that is it ending the maritime surveillance around the UK, operated by Cobham Aviation out of Bournemouth Airport. here

This week they announced discontinuing funding of the Hampshire Police Marine Unit that polices 260 miles of our coastline, including one of the busiest waterways in the world. here

With all that is going on in the current climate, this has to be total madness!
Good news, I suppose, if you happen to be a drugs weapons /smuggler, illegal immigrant or terrorist.

Totally agree. Of course we all know that they need to save more money etc but why is it that the first port of call is always the front line services? I still personally maintain that there is still far too much waste and profligate spending and this is where it should be focussed. Of course this is always harder to do but we in private industry do it every day of our lives. And now of course, when we could do with a couple of aircraft carriers and fighter jets sadly they are not around. Whose bright idea was it to scrap ours BEFORE the new ones were with us? A succesion of brain dead defence ministers hasn't helped partivuarly in the Blair/Browne era, remember Des Browne, Peter Hoon and the incredibly talented Bob Ainsworth!. My uncle was at a dinner once in celebration of the Battle of Britain (he was one of the Few), and had a conflab with Hoon who asked if they had air conditioning/heating in the Gun Turrets. I won't repeat the answer on this forum.

I think it just shows what l've thought for years. Most people in power are not fit for purpose. They know no more than you or me in many cases & in point of fact probably know less a lot of the time. They also lack common sense & just sign bits of paper given to them by job-for-life advisors before toddling off to take advantage of the subsidized restaurants & bars provided for their enjoyment at our expense. The poor fools whose hard-earned they splash up the wall without thought or purpose.

Harsh, moi?

Hi.
In many years watching of and listening to politicians on every side I have no faith in any of them any more.
The Tories only seem to have one word "Cuts" no matter who suffers (certainly not their MP's or lifestyle)
Forget the Lib Dems.
Labour have lost the plot.
SNP will and can railroad what they like as there is no debate due to a near Zero opposition, they of course think the electorate don't want military intervention in Syria, actually a good amount of people think we need to move now rather than sitting on the fence.
I'm sorry but these politicians need to wake up and mighty fast!

LOL That just goes to show how ridiculous things are with stupid comments like Hoon spewed out. What happened to the people of Merit who could do these jobs!
