Default desktop recommendations?

i am after a tower, but unsure what to buy as i have next to no knowledge about computers. one thing i do know is im not after a brand new one, just one to put upstairs and use as an every day pc, and possibly play a couple of games on.
so my question to you is, what can you recommend for sensible money? by sensible money, i mean sorta 150 quid or around that

What about this one, little bit more than you wanted to pay, extra £110, but is great value for the money.
I purchased this a month ago and am very happy with it much better than my previous system which was running XP. Windows 7 is a great improvement over XP.

I would have a look at the older Xeon Processors, particularly Dell ones.

something like this
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Dell-Precision...c#ht_665wt_690

Ok the Harddrive might not be massive, but you can always get an external one.

Cracking chips for the money.

They are good but they do consume a heck of a lot of power so not good for a permanently on PC.. False economy.. However for the occasional use they are great.

looks very appetising, not that bothered about massive harddrive and i will let my parents worry about the power consumption (i do still live at home, but im only 18 and i do pay board, so its ok)
for a smooth system, what ram and processor speed is recommended, or is it more down to the operating system used?

Hi again RRobson, try searching for "Novatech.com" for excellent deals, I use them all the time as I build to friends requirements. (Also for hard up families at no cost ... usually scrounging the bits.) As to ram and/or processor speeds it depends if you play involved games, Anything above 2.5 (processor) is usually fine for most folk but go for at least 2.gig. of DDR (ram) as programmes are getting bigger by the day. `Nova' will do next day delivery and you can pay via the phone so no details over the net. Just search for you nearest branch. Good luck ... Mike.
