as an aside i would also check your e-mail out box ! I had a very similar virus thingy whch iwas sending mails to nearly all my contacts, while i was logged of and the computer was switched off ! They mostly contained links to sales sites, visit wherever etc. most were caught by recipients scans but some got through !I used malware, norton, spybot et all , but had to kill the computer and restart at factory settings to get rid.

Recently had a nasty virus. It appeared that it got infected via an email in my wifes hotmail account. All the icons disappeared from the desktop apart from the HP printer and RAVE. It said that RAM was critical and that 95% of the hard drive was corrupt. I ran Rkill to remove all 39 viruses and then installed Spybot. All fine now.
