Default Rover 75 Diesel Auto - Tourer or Saloon wanted

Having owned a 25 and more recently a 45 I am looking to purchase the model I have always wanted .. a 75..

With around £2000 to spend I am looking for either a saloon or a tourer ( I have dogs) with the diesel auto being my preference.

Like most I am looking for something with a FSH that has not been to the moon and bike or pulled a caravan all it’s life.

Colour is more important than model and I am partial to Silver , dark blue or a dark green or Red...

Any advice would be welcomed as I am a novice but will hire a mechanic to check any vehicle I purchase.

Based in South Yorkshire and would travel for the rite car.

Thanks in advance

start with Colin's brilliant guide THIS

2k in the current market is a good chunk of cash to spend. Drop that to £1-1.5k, and save the rest for potential issues.

The caravan towing would not concern me in a diesel auto (maybe a little in a manual, but dont let that put you off what could be a good car).

Check rear sills, rear brake back plates and rear arms for corrosion. On the test drive, try to drive for around 10 miles, whilst having the OBD display active (see option 7.0 HERE), making sure it reaches at least 84 degrees. If you can, 10 miles should be enough to allow for alsorts of driving - if you get onto a motorway, you can do it in less distance. Driving around town at 30mph will take an age for it to reach its optimum temp. Any less will mean thermostat is on its way out, it is not an issue. There are workarounds for this, but it can used used as a bargaining chip.

Feel for damp carpets (and smell). Leaking boots are common, as are airbag warning lights. Dont take the word of a seller who says that it is just the under seat plugs. It is not always, but like the leaks, they are fixable, although sometimes can be tedious to find the source, if it is not the underseat plugs for the airbag light, or rear light seals for the leak. But again, bargaining chips.

Then it is basic normal 2nd hand car checks really.

Good evening

Thanks for your reply .

Can you send me some pictures of the car and an idea of what jobs need doing as I would be paying for all work.

Appreciate your time and I would be interested in the car.

If you have dogs, I’d definitely go for a tourer. Great wagons.
