As well as the two screws at the top of the headunit there are also two clips retaining it at the bottom. Remove the left hand selector knob, you'll find a small screw in the recess, turn it anticlockwise a quarter of a turn to release the clips. Once you've done that put a couple of fingers in the cassette slot and try to rock the unit from side to side - I also used a pallet knife between the console and the headunit in an attempt to help release it - with rather more than gentle persuasion you should manage it. It'll still be tight and awkward to remove, remember it's been there since the car was built and will have become stuck to the padding of the console. Hth You would need to remove the trim panel first, see my last picture in post#2 Last edited by J1MBO; 3rd September 2015 at 14:27.. Reason: adding further information |

How do i get the black panel over the atc controls off, is it just push a screwdriver in somwehere and lever it off towards myself? And how do i get the left knob off my hiline, is that just pull hard towards myself too? Sorry for the basic questions, the things others seem to instinctively know I don't, and end up breaking things!

its not good i just can't do it. I can't get the atc panel off even, it just bends towards me and is going to snap. How do i get that off without breaking it?
Tried loosening off the screw - that wont' come either. the unit is moving around in the gap so its not stuck to the fascia with age, it is jammed in. it lifts up a bit and comes about 1cm towards me, but its at an angle which means the top brackets jam in. I can't believe removing a stereo is made practically impossible, what am I doing wrong? Why will none of this work?

this is pathetic and embarrassing. i'm done. if i can't even get a stereo out what's the point of doing anything with a car? I give up.

You have to remove the ATC control face plate first it's clipped on quite tight, once it's removed there are 4 screws 1 in each corner.

i'm sorry mischief I appreciate the advice, but I tried and I can't get it off for fear of snapping it. I'm giving up, i know what i can and can't do, and if i keep trying i will have snapped panels and a broken radio. Some people can do things, I can't.

i don't understand how to. I can't see where to get the screw driver in properly, I don't know how to lever in the right place without snapping it. thank you but this is things that are beyond me. I thought i could do it, i was wrong. lesson learned. I won't try and do anything on my car ever again I will have to leave it to professionals. I can't even remove trim.

what I usually do to get the black ATC cover off is open the passenger side cupholder, this lets you get you fingers in their to pull off the cover, give a good tugs, it will bend and I've yet to have one break but if it does I can send you a spare.
Just needs some how you say "balls" Stubs |

I use a knife blade to carefully prize off the securing clips (I think there are additional clips in the centre, not just the corners).
The knife blade also helps release the lower spring clips on the HU. I actually managed to persuade my one out before I realised there was screw behind the control knob. |
