Seems a bit unlikely but you never know. One more question. With the Sat Nav computer in, did you get the Television option on the menu screen or was it in black so not selectable?

The video module is also the TV tuner and if the TV option didn't work with all the components in place, that would confirm that your video module is 'not well'

If the replacement unit is a BMW unit, rather than the Rover one, they do not seem to have a fan in them - at least never heard one on any of the BMW replacement units I have fitted (4 to date). So I would not worry on that score.

If you need any replacement units, I have a number available - tested before dispatch. Hopefully you won't need one once it is all dried out.

Not had much luck today

with units back all was shutting down but a few minutes later waking up again so looks like a new unit is needed

sealed the vents ok
ordered new mounts for the light cluster
broken a few clips when removing the side trim so ordered some of them
ordered new pollen filter as looks a bit grim

now when i put the battery back on i am getting lines on the info panel i had one before now got five something else to sort out

still i think its worth it cracking car to drive

What a coincedence.... I've got exactly the same with my sat/nav unit.
It drains my battery .

After disconnecting the draining is over, so it must be the satnav...

I'm afraid I'll have to buy an other one, I will be looking for a MK4 (DVD) from BMW and flash the software. That way it will start with a Rover logo

Thanks to Nick at Austin Garages, , I would offer the following suggestion:

1. Remove the satnav disc drive from its housing and look around the casing for evidence of water marks on the outside.

2. If you see any signs that water has run over the casing, it will almost certainly have got inside the unit. Open the casing by prising the metal top cover off. This will break the 'Warranty Void if seal is damaged' label, but there's no warranty left now anyway.

3. Check the visible surface of the PCB. Almost certainly, if water has got in, there will be corrosion bridging the PCB tracks. This will in turn probably cause the unit to stay powered up because the corrosion will track from the live part of the pcb to bits that should not be live. If you use a solvent switch cleaner fluid and a gentle scrubbing action with a toothbrush, you may be able to remove the corrosion (salt deposits, sulphates etc) from any affected tracks, and restore function. After cleaning, allow the solvent to evaporate completely, replace the cover and see if the unit powers down correctly.

In my case, the cd unit stopped completely because the corrosion had eaten the power bus track away completely. Nick soldered on a piece of wire between the two damaged ends of the track and lo, the things booted up correctly again.

In my opinion, it would also be worth while cutting a sheet of polythene sheet to cover the pcb, and tape it in place before replacing the metal cover on the unit. This would minimise any more moisture ingress affecting the pcb again.

had the chance to put back together at the weekend.

I replaced the tv unit and satnav disc drive in the end got both for just under £90 and all working fine now

It looks like it was just the tv unit at fault as the old satnav disc drive works now! but i am not taken any chances so leaving the new one in.

thanks for help rob
