so on the home straight and the car has been out for a test drive

Cat fitted onto the 2 x manifolds

IMG_20200228_204148 by Jon Christie, on Flickr

and the twin exhaust fitted. this one comes in 4 sections and to be honest the tail pipes have always been slightly out but as I got this from the blue ZT I broke I kind of live with it

I then ran the car and vented and filled the power steering reservoir to fill the power steering system. I have alway bled my hydraulic systems this way:

1. Top up reservoir
2. Start engine at idle keeping fluid level in reservoir (it will disappear quickly)
3. Stop engine and allow aeration to disappear in reservoir, then top up.
4. start engine at idle and allow fluid level to stabilise.
5. move rack from full lock to full lock SLOWLY to allow system to vent.
6. Check for leaks.

I then monitored all the dashboard for warnings, nothing came up including the ABS (few)

The car was then lowered off the stands and the final 3 x fastenings torqued up. the front wheel drive shaft nuts (350NM!) and then indented,

And the steering column nut and the cover replaced over the coupling

Finally after what seems like an age the car sits on her boots again but boy she is dusty

IMG_20200301_192441 by Jon Christie, on Flickr

Finally taken outside for the first time since the Autumn and given a wash.

My new toy sat behind in the drive

IMG_20200302_181539 by Jon Christie, on Flickr

I took the car for a test drive and all is good. She feels tight, responsive steering and really solid ride.

The only thing I have to do is adjust the handbrake as its not quite right and get the 4 wheel alignment done

I will take some photos at the weekend with her new suspension stance and then I think thats the end of this mammoth story and my input into this topic.

I do have one more job which is to get the IPK fitted and T4ed. I will have to get the car to Lynn at Newton Abbot for that but hopefully sometime soon.

A happy bunny tonight.

Fair one mate. Hadn't even thought about the rubbers as my feet are on them rather than my eyes.

A pair of OE spec ordered

Congratulations Jon

It's a pretty huge accomplishment to get all that work done by yourself - within what is actually a relatively short period of time. And it must be immensely satisfying to get driving it down the road now?

Thanks for all the information and effort you've put into this thread also - lots of information and photos for simpletons like myself to digest!

If I may, could I ask you to add a couple of photos of under the right hand side rear exhaust hanger/s and floorpan? As I'd like to see how you shimmied around the charcoal canister etc. to get it to fit (really want to get quad exhausts fitted to my own car at some point).

Cheers,
Karl.

Of course I can mate. I had to move the canister over to the outboard side of the area. I will get some photos and post. In fact didn't I post some pics earlier in this series,? I will check

Firstly apologies to Mighty Quinn. I owe you some photos.

I have been so busy during this mad period with CV-19 lock down I have not had much time to myself.

So firstly for you mate some photos of the canister moved to fit the double exhaust. Hopefully this shows how far I moved it and how it was re mounted to allow the drivers side silencer to pass by

Just for Jules I renewed the pedal rubbers

IMG_20200314_153707 by Jon Christie, on Flickr

And finally some pictures of the car on the road with her new lower stance.
i think it suits the ZT and with all the work I did on the suspension the ride is not what I would call hard. My Supra has a more solid ride si happy with the outcome and the look.

This is probably as far as I can take this thread to be honest as everything apart from a full engine rebuild has been done on this car and she is now how I would like her. I still have to get to Lynn in Newton Abbot for the message IPK fit and T4 but that will have to wait until we are out of these mad times

If a MOD wants to sticky this or move it elsewhere for a record for others to use thats fine by me.

Thanks to the following suppliers who I have used whilst doing this:-

fellow members. This club really is one of the best
Matt and DMGRS
Trikey and the other numerous traders who I have spent money with
Rimmers. Yep had to use them at times
MG mania
Kayfast who I used for most of the fastenings

I have not added up the invoices in the folder, maybe one day

Hope people have and will find this useful as a reference and thanks for all the comments it is appreciated.

I will stay around the forum because this car is a keeper and its a superb place to be. I will be driving her daily as the commuter so normal issues for this marque will arise
My next project will be taking my time in the garage so another forum is where I am reading and asking questions as I know little of these cars.

She is an Alfa 159 2.4 with 80K on the clock in top spec. Mapped to 260BHP and 400Nm torque. Superb to drive and quite a few jobs already done which these cars need. . I will be giving her the same treatment as the Zed. but I am sure the Italian engineering will push my limits

Great project Jon.
Nice to see one saved in such an epic way!

I might suggest the canister move might need a lot more heat shielding from that new exhaust, difficult to tell from pics though

Nice Alfa BTW.
Needs to be Red to match yer ZT
