Default 2 ICE Problems

Hi

I have just purchased a MG ZT CDTI 2004 face lift model and have two minor problems.

Steering wheel control does not work the stereo head unit.

CD player does not work in the boot.

Will try and explain more about the stack unit problem; Both head units and CD stack are Kenwood factory fit, the head unit will not select the CD unit but also found out it does not select the tape either, but if a tape is in the unit it will. So with a CD in the boot unit it should work... nope! Nothing wont go there but will select both tape and radio. Unit is live and it does take the cassette unit holding the CD;s and it does load it, seems though it does not tell the head unit its loaded.. (Hope thats clear enough).

Guy I brought it off says he will get it sorted week after next; getting on my nerves so would like to see if I can cure it quickly.

Thanks

PS Great site and mega car!

Have a look at this thread, it could cure your problem with the steering wheel controls..
The changer problem is most likely a faulty head unit..

Some of the CD changers can fail and seem to work okay up until the point you try and 'play' them. It's often the use of home-made cd's that cause the problems: cd-r/rw's are a tad thicker than factory-made audio CD's and so can cause excess wear on the loader mechanism which eventually fails. This is more noticeable in a CD changer whereby each 'slot' is thinner by nature to accommodate many CD's in such a small space.

If you have another CD player of same type to swap over then this will tell you if the CD player is at fault or if it is the headunit.
