Or the state of my ECU capacitors . But yes the alternator/charging circuit isn't tip top but is enough to keep things going ok. (normally) The charge light never goes out instantly, always taking a few seconds and the charging voltage is at the low end of acceptable.

What should the charging voltage be ? And can this be taken at the battery terminals with a volt meter and the engine running?

You can check it from inside the car.

It's not your car - it's the cheap HID ballasts. Google it and you'll find thousands with the same symptoms.

Just treat it to a set of new HIDS things have moved on a lot over the years even the cheap ones are better than the older more expensive units.

I had the exact same problem, would start the car and then switch on my lights (had HID's) and the engine would cut out and wouldn't restart for up to a minute or two after.

My HID kit was the cause of this, one of the ballasts became faulty. once I replaced the ballast the problem was cured.

for now don't turn on your lights whilst driving, because if it cuts your engine out it won't always restart immediately.

I think for the time being I will re-fit the original Bulbs and see what happens.

If I dont get the problem again I will as suggested replace the HID's with some new ones.

Thanks again for all the help and suggestions
