I had a similar problem with an automatic Omega, got worse to the point that it would occasionally cut out when coming to a stop, turned out to be the air flow sensor.

Roger used to do this with a goosed maf. As soon as the alterations took place to the engine, all of this stopped. I would suggest a T4 check to see if the MAF is in or out of range. Vac leaks are possible I guess, but from my understanding there would be other strange things going on as well. (Just my opinion)
