Default Anyone here own a Dremel?

Hi all, as above, anyone here own a Dremel? I've had a few of the cheap knockoffs, but they're never any good, always underpowered.

I was looking for a Dremel for doing a few bits on the trike and things, mainly to cut metal and cut and sand/grind fibreglass and things, but it seems there's all sorts of different kits. So a few questions, are the rechargeable 1's any good? Or would it be underpowered.

Theres a vast difference in price, £70 - £120 for a cordless, or £83 - £180 for a corded.

I think I've narrowed it down to 1 of these 3:
Cordless:

Or corded:

Any suggestions?

Rechargeable ones are good, trouble is they run flat fairly quickly, corded is best.

I have both, but prefer the corded one.

I have a corded one. I have also had cheapies but none of them can compete with the real thing for torque, longevity etc.

Thanks Trikey, would you recommend the extra power of the 175w motor for cutting through metal strip/box etc Or do you reckon the 130w would do it?

The smaller one will work ok, but always get the more powerful one, you are then prepared for heavier work should you need it, another thing - cheaper sanding bits work as well as Dremel ones for a fraction of the cost.

Ta, I'll go for the more powerful 1, hopefully I'll find it a little cheaper elsewhere. I can see me having more and more to do on this trike...

Me neither, I'm sure I looked before and they were about £100. But I'll get the best I can, and then hopefully it'll save me buying any other tools in the future.

This looks a little more affordable... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dremel-400...wAAOSwHMJYIuZK

We got my son a dremel some years back and whilst it was a great piece of kit I find my De Walt cordless drill with an inexpensive box of "tools" from Lidls to be just as good.

The cordless ones are meant to be a bit rubbish, although I can certainly see them being very useful.

I've got as cheap (£40) Dremel and it's fantastic. Use it all the time.

Default I

I bought a Black and Decker `Minicraft` tool 26 years ago, it's better than a Dremmel and easier to handle. I don't know if you can still get them but I bought one from a Car Boot sale for £5 a few months ago, it's just a standby for when my old one gives up, 26 years and counting..... I use it for many things but mainly glass engraving as a relaxing hobby...Have a look on Ebay for a Minicraft set, much better quality.
