Nobody is going to shout at you

At £25 with a guarantee you don't have anything to lose - good luck.

What about buying a genuine used part (sensor only).

You have to do what is right for you, not all of us can pay for new original parts.

With used Bosch one you have a non-zero probability of getting an in-spec item that may also remain in spec. With new non-genuine one, that probability is very sgnificantly reduced!

I would say go for it and see what effect it has on your car. After all, the advert does say "returns accepted".

I'd love to buy new, but the shopping list is getting longer and longer so am trying to do everything reasonably without resorting to copy parts.

I'm doing ok so far but don't have the budget to sink hundreds and hundreds into it, even though I got the car pretty cheap.

It's had just under 2 grand spent on it over the last few years by previous owners, I've got all the receipts for new clutch, dual mass flywheel, rear coils, brake pads, rear disks, high pressure pump, cambelts etc so it could definitely be a lot worse.

I've only got the niggling problems like the MAF, engine mount, bumper droop etc, which is a reasonable set of problems to deal with

There's no gurantee that a used part is any good, and it's difficult to test a MAF - especially if you are replacing it because you think yours is faulty. If your car is still having problems, do you buy another MAF or try something else?

I would go genuine Bosch and be VERY careful of the cheapies.

I have to say, I wouldnt buy a used sensor, that wasnt in the housing. At least in the housing you have a chance of the element being protected. It does have the guarantee, however, which you are reliant on the seller honouring it, without claiming you have done something to it. I bet your 'Engine is running sweet' when it is at idle (has the breaker, who is selling it, driven the car with it?). The only way to test is by fitting it and attaching a T4 to it and/or driving it. Then you have to ask, how long will it last?

I am cynical, but at £25 + postage, and if faulty, the time and cost to return. HERE is a less expensive alternative 'Genuine Bosch' 'BMW fit' version for £66.

I can understand finances are tight (of course they are, you drive a ZT now lol ) , so perhaps drive with it unplugged for a while until you get the funds. Some members have reported no issues over a long period of time without it plugged in.

I didn't even realise that the guy I bought a set of hairpins from that I'm collecting tomorrow was the same guy selling the sensor, so I've pulled the trigger, saved the postage at least.

@Smeegol, that's a very kind offer, and I'll take you up on it if this one doesn't do the job, thanks.
I know that buying used is not my best option, but I'm buying tools as well so every penny counts at the mo.

Are these sensors just a push fit, so I pull the old one out and slot the new one in?

It is push fit after you have managed to remove the torx security screw with a nipple in the centre
