I had two clutches fitted in quick succession to my ZT (think a couple of weeks apart).

AFAIK same brand of friction plate and slave used both times.

Car had always had a heavy clutch so when it first got replaced it was a revelation in lightness. Then when it was replaced again, back to the same heavy feeling.

I don't really know much about the mechanics but I assumed it was down to fitting - especially how (or even if) the clutch hub spline was lubricated and a good fit (i.e. not too tight).

I can understand the theory of different clutches varying in pressure and the release springs being of different temper that will make a clutch heavy or light. But no one has come up with a solution as to why a clutch can be be light in operation one day and heavy the next,And how it can some times start off light and become heavier during the day

Yep all because of colour choice why is it the red one had to have the heavy clutch?

I still reckon the clutch is on its way-out, the heaviness must be evidence of the clutch wearing, time will tell I guest.

I thought mine was doing this John, but I feel its my foot just getting use to the heaviness the more I drive the car. Its not until I jump into another car I get a complete shock on how heavy my clutch pedal really is, its enough to make your leg ache

Dallas,I only ever drive my 75 and an MGF and have done so for the last 11 years and it is not my imagination that the pressure alters from light to heavy.I just want to know Why as it is a real puzzle that I cant work out.
