Default Hydramount removal method

I have read somewhere that instead of the removal tool that it is possible to back up two M12 nuts together and undo it that way ? Does anyone have any experience of this ? Cheers

That method could work - never tried it. I usually remove them using a large punch/drift or drive-through screwdriver against the raised 'castelled' parts on the base, and then hammer it round anti-clockwise. A bit of penetrating fluid squirted around the base of the mount half an hour beforehand may help things along.

I would imagine that once the thread is "cracked" (hammer and drift) it would make winding it out easier but it's asking a lot of a small threaded section.

On a diesel it can be a real pain to do as the steel block surrounding the mount prevents using s strap or chain wrench to undo it.
Either fabricate a tool from a suitable sized piece of tubing to fit the castellations or alternatively use a blunt long cold chisel and a lump hammer to undo it.
The engine mount needs to be removed to allow enough access

Thanks all for your responses. Hi Russ , do you mean the lower teardrop mount needs to be removed to allow access? Not sure if my diesel has the extra steel block , I heard some didn't have it.

Hi,

Did this last week with this exact method, plenty of release fluid down the side of the mount, two m12 nuts and a thin screwdriver to work around the mount to allow release fluid in and to break the seal.

Took quite some doing to get off but worked well for us.

Hope this helps

Jon

You don't have to remove the teardrop mount, I meant the mount and brackets that attach to the Hydromount

Changing the Front vacuum engine mount and the teardrop mount on the Volvo tomorrow, which will be dead easy to do in comparison to the 75

Is this the hydramount in question? if so is this a fair price or 'a cheap part' anyone bought one recently?

Correct part for the diesel looks a fair price too, I fabricated a removal tool too as Russ said before

The double nut method is all well and good, unless your mount is really knackered and then it's useless.

Just use a hammer and chisel.
