Default A118C dash cam

Thanks everyone who replied to my recent post regarding choosing a dash cam. I've decided to go for the A118C mainly as I want one that is as hidden as possible. I have some questions regarding the camera though.

I want to hard wire the Dash cam, I've read that a hard wire kit is required as the camera is 5v and not 12v so can't be wired directly to a fuse. Has anyone got a link to a hard wire kit that worked for them as I read some had issues with some hard wire kits not working properly?

Also, what is the motion detection function?

And what SD card is best suited for the dash cam?

Cheers,

The A119s is the better camera. Check out youtube videos comparing them and make your own choice.

Excellent choice IMO.

I've had an A118c for over two years now, I bought it initially because its design matched the windscreen sensor unit in my then Lexus. It's now in my Volvo, mounted on the passenger side of the rear view mirror, a very neat installation with no visible wires whatsoever, it has a small inconspicuous screen, just as I like it.

On both cars, I just piggybacked a female trailing ciggy socket (couple of quid on eBay) to an ignition controlled fuse, and plugged the camera's OE plug into that, there was plenty of room to hide the plugs behind trim near the fuse box. No need for a pukka hardware kit

i stripped down the plug soldered wires to it and and put the circuit board into the front interior light , made sure it was safe by heat shrink been using it two years with no problems.

I used something like this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DriveSmar...8AAOSwi2lZktEy , i used a scandisk micro memory card from Tesco ( not a e-bay copy ) and it worked fine , i tucked the cable along the headlining , down the pillar trim and down the side of the dash board , then connected the earth wire to an earth point on the A pillar and used the mini piggyback fuse connector to connect to a spare slot on the fuse board under the glove box , some slots are ignition controlled and some are permanent live so a bit of testing maybe required .

I have had a 118c for 18 months, hard wired easily to the fuse box using a piggy back fuse. Simple and straight forward, the camera looks like part of the mirror assembly from the outside and can't be seen unless you look for it. I'm looking at fitting the same on the rear window too.
Class 10 32gb card from Ebay or Amazon for about a tenner, go with Scandisk.

Agree with Vossy re fuse piggyback and Scandisk class 10 32gb card.
If you have a Maplin near you, they will do a price check in store, if you ask them to. Amazon do the card mentioned above for under £12, Maplin will then sell you their over priced card for the same money

Don't hardwire it, just get one of those multiway cigarette lighter adaptors and hide that behind the dash and hardwire that instead.

It means if you ever need to change cameras, you can easily.
