Default 17mm socket not man enough

Bought an extending bar to do wheel nuts on the cars. Problem is that the socket supplied is just no good and has rounded off inside. Can anyone recommend a long socket that would be up to the job? The bar is half inch drive. Are impact sockets stronger?

You can buy telescopic bars with a two ended socket that has the correct six sided sockets for our cars. Cheap as chips but very useful. Always have mine in the boot. I've helped many others who were struggling with OEM wheelbraces. Hope that's not the one you already have!

Yes, an impact socket would be the way to go for an actual socket. Just make sure it is not so thick-walled that it won't fit into the recess in the wheel. Good quality brand names should be fine.

Bought one of these years ago in a Morrisons petrol station think it was £4.99 at the time and has been very useful for road side wheel changes.

I'm not convinced my these bars. As the handle and socket are not at right angles I tend to find mine comes off the bolt.

That’s the one I bought. A bar is a bar but the 2 sided socket just can’t live with the job in hand. I’ll try a quality socket and maybe an impact if it fits.

Make sure that you get a six sided one as oppose to the ordinary sockets. Quality may vary but the one I got has always been a good fit and never let me (or others) down. It could be that your wheel bolts are mullered?

When Ford Transits had 6 wheels & BIG wheel-nuts, I carried a 24" bar with a 10" straight bar extension & a damn-big deep, impact socket.
I never had trouble if I needed a wheel off & occasionally helped fellow Transiters remove theirs.!
Remember Slovcan's point though, an impact socket that doesn't fit properly might actually damage the wheel studs.?

Impact socket, but with a soft nylon coating around the outside to prevent damage to wheels.

I use a thinwall regular socket on my Megane with tape wrapped around the outside.

Any quality or impact socket would be fine though.

Or, maybe the last installer used a 1000 ft. lb. impact gun turned up to 11.
