Default X5 problem(sorry not zt related)

Have a problem folks with the x5 which I can’t put my finger on.when turning the steering wheel I get a clunking snapping sound and feels a bit notchy.also accelerated hard yesterday and was veering towards the gutter so pulled it back and it started taking me the other way, which scared the s**t out of me.also I get a trundling/knocking noise along the washboard kind of roads.so at the moment don’t know weather to think strut bearings or cv joints😏.i know a common sign of cv joint is clicking on full lock, but got non of that.

Looking at a US X5 forum there's a double joint (that's what they call it?) in the lower steering column that can get dry causing stiffness/clunking in the steering. Going by the posts spraying with generous amounts of lithium grease solves it but its a PITA to get at. Another possible is loose bolts on a stiffening plate behind the steering rack.

Cheers Steve.ive never heard of that one on the x5 but still.just been to grab some spray grease, and hope it sorts the problem.i know the stiffening plate bolts are tight, cause it ain’t been long since it’s been off.👍

Does it not have top mount bearings? a usual cause of 'twanging'

Yeah that’s what I mean,I just can’t determine weather it’s that or cv joints.you can see the front wheels snapping as you turn the wheel.
