Default Cleaning Wheels

Did I not read somewhere on here that you spray oven cleaner on your alloys to get the brake dust off your alloys?

Er....yes you can but it's not the right stuff.

Oven cleaners are very strongly alkaline. They will clean off the brake dust but may well damage the coating of the wheel as well. There's usually a warning about not using it with magnesium or aluminium.

Try an acid based wheel cleaner such as Wonder Wheels Super Alloy Wheel Cleaner but, IMHO, NOT not as a regular cleaner as this is strong enough to damage the coating also.

It has been known for some car dealers and car wash places to use brick acid. Which is great if you're just trying to sell something or make it "clean" but not a route I'd go down on a regular basis.

I suggest you take the wheels off the car to clean them.

Once they are clean get a quality coating on them. Something like this:

And clean them with this:

and this:

There are many, many other quality, safe alternatives.

Hope that helps.

Andy.
