Isle Of Lewis +
M.V. Hebrides, our "taxi" between Uig on Skye and Tarbert on Harris. One of the many small islands on the approach to Tarbert. The centre circle of the Standing Stones at Callanish. The Blackhouses at Gearannan. Beautiful (if cold!) beach at Bosta. The reconstructed Iron Age Dwelling at Bosta. In 1993 a major storm totally reconfigured the beach and exposed the walls of an Iron Age settlement. The site was excavated in 1996 and the reconstruction was done in 1999. The settlement dates from 400 to 800AD. Some of the artifacts unearthed are displayed in the Community Centre Museum at nearby Breaclete. The guide in the Iron Age dwelling spoke about Sea Eagles and Golden Eagles in the area. At first we thought this was a Sea Eagle until we saw a picture of a Golden Eagle. We stopped on the way from Bosta to Tarbert to let the dogs pee. We were descended on by a cloud of midges! The rugged scenery of Harris. Here's how the "locals" cope with the weather The harbour on the small island of Scalpay. Fixer upper Dunvegan Castle on the Isle Of Skye. From Dunvegan Castle Battlements. Last one, back on the mainland, Eilean Donan Castle. |

Great pictures Steve,
The scenery looks stunning and nice not to have tourists all over the place. It looks a remote and special kind of place

Steve - those photos deserve to have a wider audience than just this forum - they are a fantastic glimpse of an area that a lot of people will never see - and as for the eagle ... words fail me

Do you go up there often?
I was based up there back in the 90s, and my OH is from the Island.

We've been up the north west a few times but this is the first time we've been on Harris/Lewis, won't be the last though.
