Default always fun with clutches

zt saloon with kv6.

Andy Willi fitted a new clutch and slave earlier this year when it suddenly packed in (slave had just completely split). replaced with metal slave.

Started losing the clutch again a couple of months ago so invested in a new Tazu master cylinder and fitted that myself (absolute b*** refitting and routing the copper pipe at the same time but got it all together and working great).

I've since done a few long drives up to Wales and back etc and been very happy but on Monday I was concerned that the biting point seemed to have moved lower again - still working but feeling like it was on its way out

I've not driven it since then and intend to investigate at the weekend but wondered if anyone had any bright ideas?

I've been doing some forum searching and saw that FrenchMike had similar symptoms and seemed to cure them by reverse bleeding the clutch system to positively pressurise it.

I'll try a standard bleed first (I don't have a suitable syringe in the garage) but may try that if I still have problems. I'm a bit surprised to have any kind of issue so soon after replacing the system. I will look everywhere for leaks of course too but a bit annoyed as I can only have done about 1,000 miles since replacing the master.

MAYBE, just maybe, it's all in my head and I'm worrying about nothing...

No your head is right
There is a mystery with the Tazu master (no anti return valve)
manage to carry out a reverse bleeding and see the difference ...

As French Mike says, there have been reported air leaks on those master cylinders. Some folk have gone back to the OEM ones.

I'm hopefully getting a new LUK clutch master fitted later today due to a sinking bite point.

The quick connector broke at the base on mine after 8 months. Clutch went to the floor. DMGRS sent me a replacement though. No questions asked. All tazu.

I think you need to be very clear which Tazu master you are talking about- there were issues with the all-metal Mark 2 version, that is no longer available. The Mark 1 version (with the plastic reservoir) seems to have a good reliability record, and is now sold by X-part as a genuine MG Rover replacement part. If there have been issues with this Mark 1 Tazu, please clarify this is the case, as this will help members on here choose whether to go for a Tazu or an OEM plastic master (such as LUK). I have had a Mark 1 Tazu on my car for about 12,000 miles now, and there has been no issue with leaks or biting point moving about.

I still have an issue on my car with a noisy release bearing (even after fitting the all-metal Tazu slave), but that is another story. I think a lot of the clutch issues on our cars can be down to fitting technique when replacing parts as well as the quality of the replacement parts - the copper pipe set-up of the Tazu master is quite hard to fit in a leak proof manner.

Thanks for the replies chaps.

I didn't get a chance to look at the car as the weather was poor on Saturday (and it's not my daily).

For reference this was a recently purchased master cylinder kit from DMGRS:

I'll update once I get a chance to get all the covers off again towards the end of the week.

OK, so I finally had a look again at the weekend.

Unfortunately the syringe and piping I had got hold of wouldn't fit over the bleed nozzle!

So I went round the whole system and tightened everything up - I thought I'd done everything nice and tight when I fitted it originally but I think I must have been worn out from lying upside down in the footwell as I was able to add quite a bit of torque to the first copper pipe joint into the master cylinder.

Then bled the system as per usual and my clutch is back working well again.

I'll have to keep an eye on it over the next few weeks and will reverse bleed next time if necessary. If you don't see any more posts on this thread then presume I've had no further problems!
