Top notch as always Arctic they look just the job.

Having had mine go 'ping' and the boot land on my head, I wish I'd pre-emptively strengthened the joint!

The Screwfix plate fits in width great, the length is also good.

The six holes could maybe used either to add liquid metal or spot welds?
3

I personally think its best to drill an 8mm-10mm hole in the centre and as above use the plate as I did in my photo's.
4

Cheap fix and you get a pack of ten, bonus for using the other plate for something else.

That looks a good spot Arctic,
I did look at those, before going for the original set, as I wasnt sure how they compare.
Guess the cable tray options are easier, but more expensive.

Chris

I managed to do it without welding and four years later with the boot being opened and closed many times every day is still as good as new.

It did very well, contrary to the comments on the thread!

Default Skinflint job

A small thing but mine own. I cut up a plate 30mm x 90mm from scrap 3mm alu sheet, fixed with good ole Araldite and a couple of self-tappers. (Incidentally bought the sheet for a fiver from here and have found it invaluable for making up odd brackets. 3mm bends easily and cuts with a DIY jigsaw). I sprayed it before fixing.

Would these basically be the same as the original ones used by Arctic?

Only £2.15 each if you have a CEF locally.

HI Alan.
They would but its the postage that's the killer.

The ones from Screwfix are perfect for the job also, but you need to drill a centre hole, they could also be spot welded through the existing holes if need be.

Ok it may not be a stirling piece of engineering, but let's face it, the car has a predicted service life and our cars are now well past that. We can't really moan too much when things break or wear out.

They're getting old.

Further to this discussion may I add that its not all down to the rather fragile fixing. In my case the rhs strut seized solid, putting massive pressure on an already weakened spot weld, when I tried to close the tailgate. I would recommend replacing both struts as soon as any sign of fatigue shows around the pivot ball pins.
