I forgot to mention the four ever ready torches, gaffer taped to the wings when the lights failed on an A30. Red for the rear was provided by lipstick from the good ladies handbag! The torches came from an off license that seemed to sell everything apart from wire!

Another memory. In the early 80's I worked in a small independant BMC repair shop. We were half a block off the end of a major bridge and one day a fellow coasted through the doors in an older Lamborghini, possible a 350 or 400?
The crew clustered around as we didn't see such exotic cars in our shop. The owner opened the bonnet to explain his problem and all eyes were drawn to an old coffee can jammed into the air filter intake to the row of Weber carbs. (It must have been running lean)
The boss/ head mechanic was able to get the car restarted and sent him down the road. We didn't need to get involved in a problem like that! We were much more comfortable working on MGs, Triumphs and Austins. Later on we did work on Astons and Jensens among others but that Lambo was the only Italian car to ever cross the threshold!

No bodge possible.--MY father had, many years ago, an Austin A40 saloon.

He had a core plug on the engine block that was weeping water.

In order to remove it he decided to drill a hole in the center of it and use a metal hook to pull it out.

Unfortunately he drilled just a tad too deep.---Through the cylinder wall and partly into an aluminium piston.----

Not a happy chappie.---

Not car related, many years ago during my training, I was handed a Honeywell temperature controller to study. removing the amplifier I spotted a rolled up label attached to some wiring, being the nosey bug that I am I unrolled it. Printed very neatly it said NOTE this RED wire is GREEN.
