red indicator......indicators
Hi to all, does anyone known of any reason I can't change the green arrows in the ipk to red, is there any legal reason not to do this or will this fail an MOT.
Cheers for any replies.

In regard to the 'tell tale' device (audible or visual) on the dash, the MOT Tester's Manual says only that it should be present and operable. There is no comment about shape or colour of a tell tail light. It doubles up for the hazard warning system, where the device must be a flashing light. Again no description of shape/colour is given.

Traditionally they were green, this is something that most manufacturers seem to follow.

Green has been the usual colour since the 1960s but before that red was used on at least some cars. I don't know what the legal position is but the only other problem I can foresee is that anyone else who drives the car might find it confusing.

But reds a warning!
For me if something red comes up on the dash i notice it staight away, if i had red indicators flashing all the time then maybe i miss that warning!

I would not think that it would be an MOT failure IMHO

There solely to tell the driver that the indicators are on, no mot legislation about colour

Traditionally, the ignition and oil pressure warning lights were red and amber respectively. If either came on while the engine was running, it was a warning that something was wrong. I imagine the idea behind using green for the indicator repeater lights and blue for the main beam light was simply to make them different and, therefore, easy to distinguish at a glance - bearing in mind that, on many cars, they were simply coloured lights with no symbols or wording to show what each one meant.
