Risky business
My insurance being due for renewal, currently doing the rounds for quotes. Wouldn't bother the boards on such a mundane thing but something came up that warrants attention.
Phoned Aviva for quotes and was told that Rover 75 2.5 Auto is now rated at '46' and therefore unquotable and unavailable. There is nothing in my record or history, apart from suspect attitudes to life generally, that would preclude cover so only the model can be the factor. Anyone else found this?

Never had that and didn't have any problem getting a practically endless stream of quotes for mine a month ago. I went through comparison sites in the end because they were cheaper than even ringing the insurers direct or using a broker. Wonder if Aviva will give a quote on a comparison website ?

If you have another vehicle you drive regularly then try Footman James or Peter Best for a classic vehicle quote. The ZT-T and the TF work out less than £400 for both policies, full roadside assistance and recovery breakdown cover included and with agreed valuations.
BTW, my father's 75 Connie Tourer is insured with Aviva.....

That's odd. When I had my Scimitar SS1 convertible I had no problem getting insurance even though only 1507 were made. I'm sure there are plenty of companies prepared to cover our "rare" cars.

I thought it was odd. I had another car to insure, MX-5 2.0, which you might have thought could be of interest, and asked the clerk to check again (I had called them direct). She confirmed it. I'll give them a call again tomorrow.

Insured my 2.5 with Aviva last month - no problems and they were the cheapest. £306 through Quidco with a £50 refund in a few weeks time so £246 net.

Entirely different and fairly unrelated but for some reason this has reminded me.
When the turbo diseasel Maestro came out, some people had trouble insuring them because the insurance companies confused them with the fairly hairy Maestro Turbo petrol model. |
