front abs sensor needed

Any recommendation for a fast delivery , easiest way to check the wiring as my lights on after the liner fiasco. all plugged back together and ABS light still on .

is it a BMW item ?

I got mine from DMGRS and it was just plug and play. A good soak in plus gas the day before, a good wire brush on the bolt and the only problem I encountered was the plug end on the loom disintegrated, so I replaced that too.

But the old one having been in there 18 years didn'nt fancy coming out ... but its out now coutresy of mr Drill

..

Q ? ... what does the front sensor act on ? is it in the CV ?

No it's a magnetic segmented ring part of the bearing, looks almost like a seal.

The flat on the D shaped tip of the sensor is very close to the sensor ring, a small air gap.

Problems can occur when drilling them out with the bearing in situ, one is that the drill or debris damages one or several of the magnetic segments, the second that any iron based metallic swarf, debris or dust can stick to the ring, and, or the sensor and mask the signal!

If any of this has happened it will only be apparent when road testing, there is however some good threads on here on how to test to see if there is no signal when the wheel is rotated and also to determine if one or more segments are damaged or not being read by the sensor.

Mine was 22 years old and came straight out after a day soaking in plus gas.

Maybe I was just lucky?

Yes you were! I have never been able to remove an original one in one piece, a good tip is to mark your drill with a wrap of insulation tape to ensure you don't drill too far.

It needs to be clean, in this photo you can just make out the segments in the seal to right.

Got the sensor out cleanly, new sensor in and and the ABS lights out..just the 2 part liner to sort out.
