Check for debris in the air box under the filter if the tube has disintegrated.

Thanks for the continued responses and advice.
Artic - I looked up a 'Shannon tube' and could only find one for £45 so your referral has really helped
Roverbarmy - I'll look into this though in for an annual service soon so they may do this for me

Also discovered no under engine cover - though have seen an ebay reference in a previous member message so may be buying this also.

thanks again

Kevin

The name Shannon' is a misnomer anyway and attracts silly money. You simply need a piece of 80mm diameter ducting, preferably the polyurethane, spirally bound type. Here's an example of exactly what you need. I originally used 500mm for my 1.8T but the V6 system might be best with slightly more, I don't know. A 1m length will be more than enough.

Doesn't Jules supply a good replacement?

When the tube disintegrates the underside spigot on the airbox (that the tube is clamped to) is exposed to the elements so over time debris can be found sitting inside the airbox chamber - you just need to ensure its clean before fitting a new tube. Mine must have been missing for years before I eventually replaced it, there was just a tiny bit of rubbish in mine probably helped by the fact that the engine under tray has always been fitted and did it's job pretty well.

I've found JJC Race and Rally good for that sort of thing
