Default Siphoning.

Helpful advice sought. I have a static 75 in my drive with a full tank of gas and am currently unable to use it. My daughter has offered to collect my prescription from the pharmacy (they don't deliver apparently). If my daughter runs short of petrol is there an easy way of ME siphoning from my tank into a suitable vessel for the job or is there a device in the pipe which prevents it?

I've pumped fuel out of a tank using the tank filter hatch under the rear seat. I had an old in-line pump from my SD1 Vitesse, but as long as you have a container at a lower height than the hose in the tank, syphoning will work.

Regards

Hand her the keys would be the easiest way. Then your car will get a little blast every so often

Remove the fuel pipe under the bonnet, pop it in a can and switch ign on.

well, I would assume that would be sorted out prior. But adding another name to a policy is not normally that expensive. In my case, for 9 months, I think it was just the 'admin' fee of £20 and the cost of a 10 minute phone call. Obviously that may not always be the case - my policy actually reduces if I add my mother as a named driver to it, even though she refuses to drive it now.

But since she has her own car (reading between the lines), there is a good chance that she will have a policy that will allow her to drive other cars, providing they are already insured (assuming of course it is still insured and NOT SORN'd also).

Ultimately handing the keys over for a day every now and then would be the best all round solution - car would get a run to stop anything 'seizing up', reduces risk of rust forming with the airflow, uses the fuel if needed without having the inconvenience or danger of removing it. Downside though, Wraymond's daughter may not want to hand the car back afterwards.

Siphoning fuel from a car without the use of proper equipment etc is very dangerous, especially if yours is a petrol fuel vehicle.

Safer to use the car instead.

All my family have cover for any other insured car. We often share the vehicles although of course the cover is only 3rd party. However, when my daughters car was hit while I was driving it, it was very simple to claim directly off the 3rd parties insurer. All she and I did was notify the our insurers without claiming.

"Downside though, Wraymond's daughter may not want to hand the car back afterwards."

This made me chuckle. My kids call the 75 an old mans car, but they are always very happy to borrow it.

A simple bulb type siphon down the filler pipe should do the trick.
A few squeezes of the bulb and away it goes.
Much safer and less disgusting than siphoning by mouth!
