Default Engine Disabled Warning Light Help!!!

After returning from a two week holiday, my new(ish) CDTi had a flat battery, which I have now charged fully, but I have the "Engine Disabled" warning light and won't start, I have looked through pervious posts and can not find anything that has helped me, should the car lose the code on the keyfob (I only 1 key with the car) if the flattery goes flat?. I do not know where to go from here, can anyone suggest what I could try to get the car started, apart from getting it towed to a ex-dealer for them to have a look at.

Tony

I would susupect the battery still......a healthy battery should fail after standing for two weeks. Regardless of what the charger says, either a) try a jump start, or b) fit a new battery.....

Thanks for the info David, I did not think you should "jump start" the 75's due to the ECU?.

I am now waiting for the nice RAC person to arrive, this is all I need after 2 weeks away.

My next suggestion was RAC / AA.

You can jump start modern cars, you just have to be very careful the ECU doesn't get "flashed".

Normaly you put the headlights on and connect the earth jump lead to the body not the battery. An engine mounting a way froom the battery is a good place.

Good luck

'Engine Disabled' means that it is an immobiliser problem, normally the coil round the ignition switch reads the chip in the key, all is correct and the immobiliser ECU allows the engine to start, in your case there is a hiccup in the system, try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes, it may reset everything.

Thanks for the info David & Ray.

The RAC was unable to help me, he tried the Battery discounection method, holding both buttons on the remote key, but no luck.

Looks like it will be a trip into a local ex-rover garage, but its hard to find one that will be able to look at it straight away!!!!.

It's nothing to do with the buttons on the key, they are for the remote locking and alarm. Have you opened the key at all, it is a small cylindrical thing that isn't connected to anything and has been known to fall out unnoticed.

Hello David,

No I only got one key when I brought the car, as I said I have been away for two weeks, and only got the car a week before that, so I had not had chance to get a spare key!!!!!

I have booked the car into EMG Croydon for tomorrow, which was a bit of luck, as every garage I had phone (in my area) said the earliest they could look at the car was Monday/ Tuesday.

Just waiting for the shock of what the cost will be to get her up and running again.

It's not cylindrical, but flat. It looks a bit like a silicon chip with no legs, and a bit of the corner cut off (so it's not truly rectangular).
