auto gear selector light.
Have an interesting issue with the gear selector light on the console.
The auto transmission is working fine but have noticed that when selecting drive, both the neutral and drive red light indicators light up together. All the other lights activate as they should when selecting gears. I seem to remember pulling the gear selector switch apart some years ago and cleaning it but not sure if it was for the same issue. |

I recall reading something similar to this on the forum.a few years ago. I cannot recall the solution, but I believe there could have been a couple of causes. Try a forum search for it

I’ve got a few of these if you need one mate, but I’d try cleaning it first mate.

ill check and see if it is the selector switch on the top of the auto box.
As a matter of interest, how are your freight charges over to here in Australia.? I ask because the few cars that are being broken here are all on the east coast and usually asking stupid money for parts. |

just did a search on the forum and found a number of other members have had the same issue with the led lights on the gear stick but none of them posted an outcome.
its all coming back to me re the selector switch. The issue i had then was it would only start in neutral and not in park. i ended up cleaning the selector switch at the time. This issue i think may have to do with small led light block that shows the lights. Might try swapping it with one out of my other cars to see if it works. |

Try adjusting the selector cable at the gearbox end, leave the car in park, loosen the nut holding the cable (make sure the cable is free) then move the selector from p to n then back to p, gently tighten the nut that holds the cable making sure you don’t move the position.

its strange because all the gears except “D” for drive appear in the instrument cluster. Just when you go from neutral into drive both N & D light up on the console led’s.
Unplugged the small light block out of the console and the “D” still didnt appear in the ipk display so its not a faulty Led display. Thinking either adjustment of selector cable as mentioned or the selector switch is duff or needs cleaning? Last edited by genpk; 14th December 2019 at 10:16.. |

ok, sorted the case of the drive and neutral gear lights on at the same time.
Had a spare selector switch on the top on the auto box. Changed it over and to sorted the dual lights appearing on the console. Interestingly it sits at a slightly different position to the original. Basically, when fitted the drive light came on when selected but no neutral light at all. Put it in neutral and adjusted the switch slightly until neutral lit up. I have the small setting tool for the switch but interestingly final setting is slightly out of line with the tool setting . Took car for a long run and seemed to be a little harsh somtimes dropping back down the gears and then got the “ep” limp mode on the car as i pulled up home. Disconnect battery, re set the selector switch a little as was the location of the old one, car seems fine now. Not sure how the setting of the selector switch affects gear changes but it seems to.
