Default Pink flush, use or not?

A quick poll on another forum, suggests no one bothers with the pink flush in the toilet flush tank. One good suggestion was to fill a spray bottle with the pink and spray the toilet before use, then again after flushing with plain water. We do of course use the blue in the bottom tank.

We had a wonderful time on the 'Chicken Run' holiday I mentioned earlier, the only problem was the lack of a flush toilet. So this was the first time ever, we have made full use of the caravan's toilet. The manual flush pump failed to pump, on the last two days, so we resorted to using a 2L plastic milk bottle to flush instead. Now fixed, a combination of a sticking valve and a slightly worn pump piston.

Jean enjoyed her time looking after the chickens, the dozen horses, the wild birds and the semi- tame crows.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

use pink for the flushing and green for the cassette, some sites ban the use of formaldehyde in the emptying point so be careful and read the label.

I'm a pink and blue man.

2L, you did not use all 2L each time did you?
Hope you opened the cassette before use?

Same here, although ATM we are using a dual purpose liquid, but it's recommended that the blue or green is not used for flushing,as it clogs up the impeller on the flush pump. I had to remove the pump and clean the impeller on my bro in law's van.

We are using pink for the flush and Blue in the cassette, but have a bottle of Green just in case we go to a site that doesn't allow the Blue ...

Well, it seems everyone here, apart from me uses the pink in the flush tank. Which is at odds with a specialist caravan I visit. There most don't use it or only use it in a small spray bottle with plain water in the flush tank.

The makers of the pink suggest it stops 'matter' sticking to the bowl if a quick flush is given before use and it is supposed to leave a nice smell.

As said, I did test the pink in the flush tank many years ago, but it seemed not to offer any advantages I could see. We are about to go away again, but this time I will see how plain water in the flush, combined with the pink in squirty type bottle works.

One suggestion I read so as to help avoid the toilet bowl being soiled, was to add three strips of toilet roll in a criss cross in the bottom of the bowl.

Another idea which I read about years ago and which I have always used, is to splash a few drops of olive oil or cooking oil down onto the closed sliding seal occasionally. It helps in lubricating the seal and makes the lever easier to operate. I always add a few drops when ever the van will be left parked up and unused for a while.

I never use pink stuff, only the blue in the waste tank. I do however clean out the flush tank every year with a domestic cleaner with added bleach.

When I got the van the top tank was black with mould and it was blocking the pump. After cleaning the tank out I've never had any problems and after six years I'm still on the original pump.

I also clean the toilet thoroughly after each trip and the waste cassette gets an annual strip down and clean. Preventative maintenance is best in my book.
