Default Ztt 180 auto new water pump and thermostat still overheating

Hi

I hope someone can help me. I recently acquired an mg as in the title.. And I'm having overheating trouble.

Its just had a new thermostat, water pump and belts but still doing it when on the drive home... Going uphill /sat on traffic, it shoots up.

It doesn't seem to overheat at idle
It seems much happier with the heater blowing hot and full.
The top rad pipe is hot.
Rad itself is cold
Fan comes on as expected

I ran the engine with the cap off when up to temp and after a few minutes it now water out like a volcano!

Could it be as simple as an airlock (please!!)

Garage say maybe the oil cooler?

Thanks for any advice or opinion
