Yes - interesting that - and very relevant I suggest. There was no income tax then - Governments at the time we’re wary of how unpopular introducing an income tax would be.

So the taxed something that was linked to how wealthy you were - big house/more windows.

If the tax income from fuel drys up - then the RFL or a tax on the item could be applied.

As for how people live off grid - my understanding was that in Spain it worked well. How crazy that a Government has to introduce severe tax penalties and fines if you dared to purchase solar panels and produce your own power and not connect them up to the grid

In a country so demonstrably suited to Solar Power production!

If anything demonstrates the total folly and stupidity of Governments - it is this.
