..and sometimes a different modem Just chucking my 10ps worth in, I have a D-link 604+ that has a hard job reaching my shed, mind you it does travel through one stud wall and then the house outside wall before getting to the shed.
I updated to the new bt home hub thingy and it uses a thomson wireless modem in a fancy case and the signal strength in the shed is now 2 solid bars instead of none or 1 on a good day.

The only difference I can see is the size of the hub means I had to re-site it and the antenna is slightly higher up (a huge difference of about 4 inches higher, but that's how fickle wireless can be

Mind you, my wireless is competing against a load of other antennas from my radio equipment, and the cordless CCTV cameras so i'm surprised it works at all

I have a Dlink Router with Wifi in my office at one end of the Bungalow
The router also goes to my network Switch
I have the Bungalow flood wired with Cat5
At the other end of the Bungalow I get pretty poor wifi so I have a Belkin Wifi plgged into the Cat 5 network

My laptops simply can use whichever wifi connection I like

I've got mine in the loft with my DC and fileserver - get a solid 5 bars all through the house and i've been able to pick up the signal from the next street with a homemade yagi and and USB dongle

Although it is obviously better to have maximum signal strength, (5 bars/dots or whatever) to Confirm MM's Post earlier the connection speed to Internet will be the same regardless if you have 1 or 5 indicators, this is governed by your line speed not the WI Fi or Router.

Woo! Done it with some better antenna's and some shifting about, but now have another question. How can I set up the PC's to share files and a printer? I've tried the windows xp setup and it doesn't work. My laptop is able to see the PC but can't access it and the PC can't see a thing! Its mainly sharing the printer i'd like to do.

I've turned off all the firewalls on the computers and still nothing. I've run the wizard on each computer and have setup the printer as being shared. I can't even see the workgroup on my network places.

Anything else I should try?

Will that setting automatically open the relevant ports in your firewall? Or do you have to do that manually in another control panel?
That is presuming you have a firewall running on the machine and not just on your router.

I did check but incase I also turned them all off. The only one on is the router, would that stop internal connections?
