Default rover 75 V8 plenums

Hi this is my first post so don't really know what I am doing!
Have just purchased rover 75 V8 which I am extremely happy with.
I wish to clear plenums, I followed your guide but cannot even see drain pipes because of so much plumbing which is not on your picture!
Can I clean these pipes out from underneath?
Thank you.

Welcome Hugh !

The V8 variants don't have the rubber drains.

Instead just 2 small holes approx 8mm exist for drainage.

These small drains sit directly above the exhaust manifolds (not clever!) so when wet you will hear a sizzling sound if exhausts are hot as water drips on them.

Above the manifolds you will find 2 small metal tubes one either side.

We suck these drains clear from above with a right angled hoover attachment !
Happy hunting.

Juels.
Beat me to it, I noticed this the very first time back 2011 when I did Rob (Woolleysoxs ) V8 we managed to get a small diameter wire down to clean the hole out, I have yet to see a V8 with water in the plenums I know Robs, and Bernard's have not had any in when we looked

Yes weird that two 8mm holes don't seem to get blocked as readily as two 30mm diam rubber tubes

Hi guys, I'm new to the forum. I recently picked up a Rover 75 1.8 turbo and cleaned out the plenum today, following this tutorial. Thanks for the info and the pictures. Everything went very smoothly, so I'm going to attempt the mod at the weekend as well

Default Plenum inner wing tubes check

We recently checked a members plenums including the inner wing tubes below is what we found, therefore do not neglect the inner wing tubes even if it seems there is no water collecting.

Tubes removed Fig 1
1

Inserting the plenum tube rod Fig 2
2

Once the rod is forced through it starts to remove the mud plug Fig 3
3

Further the rod is inserted more of the mud that as accumulated comes out Fig 4
4

As the rod exits the mud plug also is removed from the tube Fig 5
5

The tube is now completely clear of debris and can be cut off so this does not happen again Fig 6
6

Cut the tube just where it starts to tapper Fig 7
7

Tube end cut off opens the aperture for free flowing water and dirt to get away Fig 8
8

Do both tubes in the inner wings if you have them Fig 9

Either buy Jules plastic plenum guards, or fit some 'gutter guard' plastic mesh material. All that is needed is the gaps at each side of the plenum (by the bonnet hinges), suitably filled in such that water can go down, but not leaves, twigs, paper and other debris.

Add the plenum spyhole mod, then you can easily check the drains are clear.
Can i get all these bits from one source? Thanks
