Default 200pk

A Dutch company in Arnhem ( Rover Works) told me that they can tune the Rover 75 (CDTI) to about 200 Horses.
They know enough about the BMW M47-R motor to do that, now the car has 160 PK mostly enough but sometimes
I asked the Dutch MG_Rover club, nobody was enthusiastic, perhaps in the U.K somebody ?

The opinion amongst people who know a lot more than me is that 200 bhp is pushing the gearbox and clutch to their limits. I believe that the 160 upgrade was fixed at that figure to avoid such problems

Thank you - you're dead right to add that potential hiccup.
I did once see a broken crank in a Mark I Escort rally car - not a pretty sight

They might be able to do that 🤔 But is it wise NO it would wreck the autobox or clutch, it's a bit like saying "I could make my dog run all day without a drink" it amounts to abuse and no respect.

There have been many threads on this subject. But IIRC it was recommended not to to this. Due to issues with the crankshaft, gearboxes etc.....

The 160bhp is more than enough for the CDT

I wonder if anyone has tried this and has it worked well or destroyed the car? Folk saying no on the basis of valid points but is it true or simply guesswork. Obviously I won't be volunteering my car as the test subject 😊

Well... not strictly relevant, I suppose, but my friend had his diesel Mondeo mapped to 200bhp, and it went like stink for about 6 months - then the HP pump packed in, expensively.

His mechanic told him it had been over stressed by the demands put on it by constant high performance (he did tend to drive it like a sports car all the time).

Maybe true, maybe not - I guess there are people here who will know...

My last 2 cars were E36 M3's - 320bhp, very cheap, decent handling, 170mph on a good night on the M5. Maybe get one of them instead, if you can have lorry full of petrol and tyres following you everywhere

I agree on the above comments, what is doable and what is best for the car are two very different things.

I have owned Saabs for years and some of those are wound up almost to the point of ridiculous. For example a 9-5 Ae out of the box is about 250bhp, this is easily tweaked to 275 or even 280 in some cases. If you want more you need to replace the clutch and more.

There is one guy who has 500 and puts a new gearbox in his car every 6 months.

Certainliy my lovely Rover will not be used as a testobject, i don't want to be the first one perhaps the second one who does the tuning.
The only reason to get more horses was/is that my right foot must at the bottom to gett all the 160bph including the noise.
Perhaps when i have some more bph the car will react a little bit more supple.
