Default All I want is a printer

Our printer went wrong yesterday, had a look at it but could not figure out what was wrong.

Wife took to the internet to find one, OMG the choice and "complexity" of terminology made it a mind blowing task.
All we wanted was a printer.

When it comes to product description some companies give you blurb but not understandable description. For example :-
This boiler is good for houses with more than one bathroom.
This boiler is good for those houses needing a lot of hot water at once.

mmmmm, if I have more than one bathroom I may well need a lot of hot water at once, so, what is the difference between the two boilers?
The technical team laughed when I asked them but they did tell me.
Can you guess what the difference is? The answer is not that they are the same.

Why are you asking boiler salesmen about boilers if you you're after a printer?

Mostly though I also find many online descriptions of products severely lacking in details. Even the manufacturer websites often only giving the briefest of information when they're best placed to give you every detail you could ever want and a shedload of photo's to go with it. Sometimes I think they aren't really bothered about selling their products. Sure, give the highlights and best use cases in sales talk, but give us a detail section with every minute detail if we want to wade through it. It doesn't really cost any more to do that and stands a chance of getting more sales.

Ian, could your printer problem be something to do with Windows10 and any recent updates? I have a HP printer which has suddenly gone kaput, no light, no print etc and I have had a recent Windows 10 update and have suspicions but no evidence at the moment. Chris S.

I've experienced similar problems. Put it down to the apparent belief the suppliers (and manufacturers) have that the entire public are techno whizzkids with forensic knowledge of every nut and bolt - er, sorry, those terms are for troglodyte cave dwellers now - every dot and squibble is the new lingua franca.

I can't understand why a pack of three ink cartridges are twice the cost of a new printer. I suppose the law of returns of capital says more ink will be sold than printers as they will last for ever. Until they don't.

still on windows 7. Error message on printer was to do with paper/carriage jam.
There was a problem but I have no where to be able to take the printer apart.
The ink cartridge carrier would slide across but could not get all the way to the right

A couple of years back, I had a similar issue. I searched on Youtube and was able to find a detailed video showing how to completely dismantle the printer. A word of warning though: as helpful as the video was, once I'd dismantled it and sorted the issue (an ink blockage in my case), there was no way I could get it back together

RE:---your second paragraph.---I now check the printer price against the cost of the ink. When there's only a few euros difference I go for the new printer with the new cartridges in it.----I currently now have three printers.---

Is your printer WIFI to your computer ??

I had a glitch with my printer some time ago.--They wouldn't talk to one another.--( Printer and computer. )--I even went out and bought a new printer which is still in the box I bought it in.--

From somewhere got the information to input into my computer ( a softwear update. ) to go search for the printer. It worked and now my old printer, from that day, has happily talked to my computer.

I've had the spare for year now. I hope by the time I need it the innards haven't seized up through lack of use.--
