Breakdown cover ?
Can anyone recommend a breakdown service that will cover a 16+ year old car as part of a personal cover plan ?..........Or will it need to be done on it's own ?
Thanks Keith

I have just renewed my breakdown cover with Autoaid for £41 and this covers any car that I drive. Autoaid is recommended by Martin Lewis (moneysaving expert) and I have been with them for the past 5 years. Fortunately have not had to claim so cannot comment on the service if needed.
This policy is much cheaper than any other for what it covers - the snag ia that in the event of a breakdown you call Autoaid who send a repair van and you have to pay for the service provided and then reclaim it from Autoaid. It is very comprehensive and includes roadside repair and recovery to your chosen destination, home start and it is possible to add other drivers. |

Unfortunately I have had to use their services. I wasn't happy that they took well over 2 hours to get someone to me in the centre of Aberdeen during the evening rush hour. But you can't argue about the price I didn't have to pay for the recovery as some of the outfits they use will charge Autoaid directly.
Another point to note - the price charged covers both yourself and your legally married spouse. My wife has always used her maiden name, so she doesn't have any ID in her married name. We had to email them a copy of our wedding certificate to make sure she was covered. I was surprised that they insisted on this, in this day and age. |

Breakdown Cover
Try Drive24-7.com
My July renewal was £40.49 and £45.88 if I included loss of keys cover. It would have been £50 to also cover misfueling. For that you get Roadside + tow, Homestart + tow, Onward travel Inclu., Car Hire/rail/taxi, Hotel Accom., National coverage, Unlimited breakdowns, Multi vehicle discount, and Free accident pack (this is, Accident assist, Accident recovery, Full legal assistance, £350 payment towards your vehicle excess insurance. I made a claim last year, crankshaft pulley went 200 miles from home. Assistance truck within an hour, towed to garage, checked out and would have low loaded me home if I wanted. It sounds like Xmas I know but truly check it out! Ray L |

With all the cars I have (3 on the road at anyone time) and the type of cover I need , I still found the AA to be more than competitive . Not the cheapest but not a million miles away , plus I know the type of service to expect as Ive been with em 15 years lol . However some of their "technicians" arnt the sharpest tool in the box

Yep, AA all the way for me! Been with them for 18 years now and they've been spot on every single time.

I use start rescue, for the full (uk only) package it was about £90 for 2 cars. Used them twice and they've been good. The OH used AA but it got too expensive.
We've now been with them for years, i don't think we'd switch. |

StartRescue for me too - had to use them twice, once when misfuelled and once when the crankshaft pulley failed.
Both times a swift response and clean vehicle with helpful driver. Gets my vote!
