Have you been in contact with DMRGS? I most certainly would so that he knows about the situation. Wrong tensile strength is/ could lead to a serious accident and they need to know so they can put it right.

The bolt kits on this page are also unflanged - https://www.dmgrs.co.uk/collections/...olts-fc112187a
The nut kits on this page are flanged - https://www.dmgrs.co.uk/collections/...tainless-steel

Now, there's a single page with all the arm items bundled together and the pic shows flanged bolts & flanged nuts which appear to have the same colour/finish as the ones on Rimmers. https://www.dmgrs.co.uk/collections/...2057-xpbundle2

I didn't know M12 bolts marked '8.8' are only specified to 70Nm, so I'll replace them (and the nuts) with these Rimmers items:
https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-FC112187A
https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-FX112057
Oh no, more money (£34.16).

Hi Simon.
Drop Matt or is new partner a PM and see if they will reinburse you for the nut & bolts, I read that they are working on a phone number so they can be called? which is going to be better at least then you can talk to him/them direct.

Are the arms etc the ones made in India or China ? I am waiting for the new batch to come on the market before I purchase some for the future.

Mat says a tensile rating of 8.8 on an M12 bolt will be equivalent to a yield strength of at least 600MPa, possibly more since they're high quality bolts made in the UK.

This table says minimum yield strength is 640 MPa (for all sizes below 16mm) - https://www.boltdepot.com/fastener-i...ade-chart.aspx. If the Rimmers bolts FC112187A are tensile rating 10.9 (post 7), then they'd have a minimum yield strength of 940 MPa, or nearly 50% more.

I don't know how accurate that table is. I also don't know how torque settings relate to minimum yield strengths. The table defines yield strength as "The maximum load at which a material exhibits a specific permanent deformation" - so logically, minimum yield strength must mean the minimum (smallest, lowest, least) maximum load at which a material exhibits a specific permanent deformation. Wot?

I don't know Steve - the upper arms had labels/stickers on them (metallic finish, almost hologram). This is the only pic I've got of one - it's only about 0.5% of the original frame so it won't take much enlargement.

Hi Simon.
I would stick to the original bolts & nuts from rimmers or take a bolt into your nearest iron mongers and see if they can find the same for you.
At £3.25 & £2.04 its not that costly, then add postal cost.

Yes, I'll stick to the original MGR ones but the £££s are getting really silly now. The 10.9 arm bolts & nuts are £34.16. Then there's another £50.40 on sill trim clips (post 15). That's £84.56 plus (say) £10 postage = £94.56. Add the £13.40 I already spent on the 8.8 bolts & nuts and it's nearly £108 just for a few fixings. Ridiculous.

I feel your pain. £72 a couple of years ago for the nuts and bolts for the rear suspension, incl the 4 for the subframe. I did find them slightly cheaper elsewhere by only about 4 pounds though. But as I was getting a fuel tank strap from rimmers anyway, it settled my mind knowing they were the correct ones getting them from rimmers.

I cannot believe DMGRS supplied standard M12 bolts, non flanged and of incorrect tensile strength, put into context the maximum torque that can be applied to an 8.8 M12 bolt is 70Nm...........so how does that compute with a bolt that is specified to be tightened to 120Nm.

I will let that sink in for a minute before the horror of what I've just said crystallises in your mind, absolutely disgraceful disregard for safety

Brian
Oh dear.

I thought that DMGR's would have sorted this by now.

I purchased the complete kit to fix my Dad's ZT-T. It failed it's MOT on a fractured coli spring, and having removed the coil spring small sections of the upper arm had rusted through. I got the bolt kit out of the envelope and should have trusted my better judgement but assumed (my mistake) that these would have been supplied as a suitable alternative.

Snapping the upper arm to sub frame bolt whilst tightening to the required torque I realised my mistake.

They have an email from me.

I will now have to drop the sub frame again to try and get the sheared thread section out of the captive nut and arm. Not happy is an understatement.

Hi Ben. Let us know what the outcome is on this as I am awaiting the new arms to arrive, and I have also ordered the bolts on offer. If they are the wrong ones, I will not accept them. Obviously dangerous as you have found out.
