Default Rover Newbie Dilemas

Hi all. First time poster. I became the owner of an 04 1.8 75 connie se in November. Fixed the drivers side electric window then the frost came and the doors decided they didn't want to work anymore. Most came back to life but the passenger door needed a fair bit of head scratching before I finally got it working again. Jubilee clips on radiator hoses had to be doubled up as they kept popping off. Finally got to the point where everything was running smoothly for about a week. Went to the shops got back in the car and got a crank no start. After a little more head scratching decided to change the cam sensor which did nothing so thought I'd change crank sensor as well see if that helped. It didn't. the plug snapped off in my hand leaving the shaft of the sensor stuck firmly in the bell housing. After days of trying to drill it out with the little room I had coming in from the top I opted for a front end off radiator out approach. This worked and I got the old sensor out and the new one in however due to me not having much of a clue what I'm doing I managed to purge my air conditioning gasses. Did discover that the flexi pipe going from the air box up into the wheel arch, whatever that may be?, had perished and needed replacing but will do that If I ever get her running again. By this point I was more than a little frustrated with my 75 so decided to stop the guesswork and get myself an OBD2 scanner. After waiting days for it to arrive from ebay plugged it in only to be told it couldn't connect. Had I got damp in the EMU I wondered so whipped that out banged it on a radiator overnight and cleaned my pelum drains. Still not connecting and still not starting. At the moment my train of thought is that I've a fuel pump issue but am lost as to what I should do and reluctant to mess with my fuel tank with £50 worth of fuel in it. I want to be enthusiastic about the car but at the moment I also want to hit it with a sledge hammer. Is there anything else that may be causing it not to start?

The tube you found is the shannon tube, cold air feed from under the wing to the airbox.
Non starting sounds like fuel filter separation, you'll need to lift the rear seat, under which is a cover to the fuel tank and filter. It may need a twist to seat correctly. Plenty of threads about both if you search the forum. https://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/for...ad.php?t=58832

Thanks for that. I'll give that a go tomorrow. Does the pump just twist out or is there anything holding it?

Mines currently at 71 000. I'll be lucky if I've done much more than about 500 of them. With what I'm paying on tax and insurance it may be one of the most expensive pound per mile cars going.

There is a fair bit holding the filter housing in!

The good news is you don't have to remove it fully to push it back together and fit a clip to hold it.

Go gently, if your too rough you can upset the level sensors which will have your fuel gauge bouncing like crazy.

Hopefully the FOC on your fuel filter will sort you out. I would also bear in mind that a classic non start on the 1.8 is a dirty/corroded spade connector to the starter motor.

If the Shannon tube has gone it may have pulled the debris up into the air box restricting air flow. Remove airbox lid and filter to see and try removing the pipe completely if it is collapsed.

Thankyou to everyone who has replied. I'll be out at the car this afternoon feeling slightly more confident about what I'm doing. I'll keep you posted.

Well you were right. The fuel filter had indeed seperated. Pushed it all back together then tried getting it apart again to make it a bit easier to get the seal back on. It was on tightly and so I left it and worked round it. Got everything back together and eagerly turned her over fillrd with optimism. Still not firing up. I'm wondering if its something I've done but the only thing I can think that it may be is a plug coming from the wires for the indicators which I assume must be something to do with the fan but couldn't see where it fitted so left it off knowing I'd be taking the front off again to fit the shannon tube. Would this stop it from starting?
